Jobs and the Future September 1, 2008

Well, yesterday my parents stopped receiving child benefits for me, as I am over 18 and not in employment or education.

Thus I had to ring the job centre, to apply for Job-Seeker’s Allowance. This is so I get a pension many years down the line.

Anyway, following a long phone call, I now have an interview to go to next Monday.

Where the hell is all this going? Well, it just so happens that I’ve been searching for jobs lots, but repeatedly, they require previous experience in that sort of field. The trouble is, you can’t get that experience without a job; it’s a vicious circle.

What makes it worse is that University wouldn’t be the answer. While on the phone, the advisor whom I was speaking to offered to search for jobs in my area. They all require previous experience, and she added to that that being a graduate would be of no use; University degrees don’t count as experience.

It’s the recession that’s starting to tighten its grip, so say the doom-sayers. Should these people be believed, unemployment will rise as workers are made redundant, and jobs will be much harder to come by.

I can only hope I get a safe position somewhere before it’s too late.

Another thing that’s bothering me is my inability to pass my driving test. It makes me so angry that I continue to fail! It’ll be my 6th attempt this September.
